Position Held: Drum Major
Doing Now: I am stationed at Fort Stewart, GA as of November, 1998 and play flute & piccolo in the marching, ceremonial, and symphonic bands. The army life really isn't that bad for the most part, it's still the military and depressing when we play for troop departures going to Kuwait. It seems we play a lot more departures than returns. Very depressing. Barracks are still barracks, however, they are building new ones to enhance the quality of life for us single soldiers. So they are trying.

I had a traumatic brain injury the day after Thanksgiving '97. After a 5 week long coma and some therapy, I was sent to McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA for 4 weeks of rehabilitation. Upon completion of rehabilitation, I made my way back to Walter Reed Army Medical Center where after 1 month of being an inpatient on the neurosurgery ward, I was assigned to the Medical Holding Company at Walter Reed. I awaited the results of my medical and physical evaluation boards. Their original plan was to have me retired from active duty, but towards the end, they finally realized I wasn't ready to give up. I had requested a formal hearing of my medical board, scheduled to happen October '98, but the formal hearing never happened. They had decided to send me back to active duty! So I received my orders for this wonderful place [Ft. Stewart, GA] and here I am. Soon I hope to have the opportunity to be evaluated again for my flute playing.
