2004-2005 Season
|
Robert Johnston, Marching Unit Director Fall 2003 Marching SeasonThe Vikings put their best foot forward and again produced an outstanding, successful season. The Cavaliers were exciting in their featured routines of “Danger Zone”, “Blister On The Sun”, and “Jockomo”. The Cavalier sponsors and officers continued their unique routine format that was heartily received by the appreciative audiences. The Lancers produced their usual professionalism with routines featuring kicks, interesting choreography, and charm to “All That Jazz”, “Bend Me, Shape Me” and “Respect” (just thinking of those great splits still hurts). With the Viking Band producing their wonderful full sound and marching, the Marching Unit field shows of “Phantom Of The Opera” and “Cantina Band a la Sing, Sing, Sing” were exciting and marvelous. This year we proudly featured the heroic Kevin Lambert as Raoul, the beautiful Alice Rajakumar as Christine, and the dramatic Andrew White as the Phantom. In the tremendous “Cantina Band...” routine we also proudly featured Steve Errera and Tom Miller as trumpet soloists. It was exciting to write these shows and even more exciting to see the great performance concepts brought to life by the Marching Unit. In the Atlantic City MISS AMERICA PAGEANT BOARDWALK PARADE, the Marching Unit was outstanding in their performance of their parade routine “The Stars and Stripes, Forever”. It was a thrill being with the group as they performed that classic march with such great style, energy, and enthusiasm. The Viking Band was indeed impressive performing the music, just as the Cavaliers provided great color and routines to enhance the general effect. The Lancer Drill Team added their magnificent charm and dance skill to bring the entire Unit to a second place finish and a corresponding $3,000 scholarship award. The Hagerstown ALSATIA MUMMER’S PARADE brought the Vikings greater recognition as they captured First Place among much great competition. The Marching Unit was stellar in their performance and was recognized by the judges as being the best senior high school band in the parade. CONGRATULATIONS!! I am indeed very proud of our 200+ member Marching Unit. They are a tremendous credit to themselves, their groups, the school, and the community. The triumvirate of drum majors were superb. Drum Major Patrick Eulitt, Senior Assistant Drum Major Dana Burns, and Junior Assistant Drum Major Jordan Garner were focused, inspirational, disciplined, and skilled in providing needed and effective leadership during Marching Unit events. And a special “Thank You” to the Viking Band officers for energetic support at Viking Band and Marching Unit practices. Their handling of equipment, supplies, and leadership was both necessary and effective. And a “hats off” to our parental support, without whom none of these events would have obtained such a high degree of success. Parent involvement with uniforms, chaperoning games, chaperoning parades, filling in for sponsors, handling field show props, moral support, etc. has been outstanding. We owe a great debt to all involved parents and the Marching Unit Boosters for their sacrifices to help make this unit outstanding. Add to all of the above the community service performances at Waverly Fall Fest, the Mount Hebron / Orchards and the Turf Valley Halloween parades and we have fulfilled a busy fall schedule with great pizzazz, finesse, gumption, and fun. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL! A personal note of gratitude to everyone regarding the long awaited transplant surgery for Mrs. J. The concern, prayers, thoughts, understanding, and support expressed to Ann and the family has been overwhelming. We are so grateful to be a part of the Mount Hebron HS Marching Unit and Band family. Again, thank you to you all. Everyday I count my blessings being a part of such a wonderful community! Winter Holiday ConcertsThe annual Winter Holiday Concerts were a huge success featuring our concert groups in two nights of concerts, each with a completely different program.
